Hey guys now that I actually have enough time to do this I'm going to be doing a little bit of this and some videos as well. But I just wanna say thanks to all the people who have been so patient about getting only a little bit of information each time I sent an email. So sorry for that but now I am going to be a little better at that.
I want to start with my experience in the MTC in Peru. I learned some really hard lessons there. While in the MTC I learned that being obedient isn't seeing how much you can get away with. Its putting forth your trust in our Heavenly Father and saying, "I may not completely understand why this is the way things are, but I love you enough, and trust you enough, to do these things you have asked me." So I'm gonna talk more of what what i learned in the video just because I genuinely think it was such a powerful and life changing experience for me understanding FAITH & OBEDIENCE. So for those who just want the updates we will continue!
(Little spiritual thought)
OBEDIENCE: The importance isn't just following these rules because they may have a deeper impact, which most of the time they do, but its showing God that we are willing to sacrifice our pride, knowledge and understanding to the lord and allow him to be present in our lives. Because this is how we receive strength, like Jesus did.
LEAVING: This started with us preparing for the field in the peru MTC. Sorry its been a long week so bear with me. We finished up the most we could learning spanish with our teachers and said our goodbyes to all the amigos we made while at being there. Then we flew out. We didn't have a whole lot of time to process leaving for the field so that was nice.
ARRIVING IN THE FIELD: The Elders starting their mission in Trujillo, including me, landed and met with our mission presidents the Harries. They are some really nice people with huge hearts and open arms. President Harries speaks spanish in the whitest accent. He is tall with glasses and nearly bald. His wife Sister Harries is a woman who loves to talk. She's got some bright red hair the fluffs in every direction. Immediately she started to get to know more about the new Elders and Sisters, asking about family, friends, MTC experience and just some friendly questions. I'm honestly excited to get to know them more because they seem like great people. That same day we arrived we had some interviews with Pres. Harries and went out to proselyte afterwards. It was such a cool day because they just kick you right into it.
PROSELYTING: I went with one of the missionaries who has been around for quite some time. His name is Elder Brinkerhoff and he only has one month left in the mish. We went and visited this family out a little ways away from where we are staying. On our way the houses slowly started decreasing in quality. Finally we reach a house that looks like no one lives in it and Elder Brinkerhoff calls to one of the windows. We get let inside by this nice member family and we enter their home to find that there is no roof. Only stairs that lead up to a one room bedroom. Everything here is built with brick, and if you have a little extra money you can soften the ground a little with this almost carpet tyoe stuff. Anyway this family of 4 that we are teaching has the mother, father, a 9 year old boy and a 3 year old boy. I have never seen bigger smiles on anyones faces. These boys, and their parents, were some of the happiest people I have ever met. I couldn't help but feel such an overwhelming love for them and their country even though I basically didn't know what they were talking about. We taught them about jesus and how he is our compass when we are lost. Such a wonderful lesson and growing experience for me to start my journey here in Perรบ.
MEETING MY COMP: The next day we found out who our companions are in a fun meeting with the Pres and his wife. They would call the trainer up, wait, then announce what new missionary was paired with who. I'm so in tune with the spirit I guessed my own comp... But actually I guessed it. My comp, his name is Elder Nicoll, red headed and super talkative guy. Been out on the mission for nearly 9 months now and scared the crap out me me when I asked how his spanish was and he said "Oh its not that good..." He was totally lying, he understands well enough to carry our lessons with members and investigators on his back. He is such a great comp. Determined to shape our area and "revive" it because we are opening up this area back up to Elders. We've been assigned into an area called California. Yes its like the peruvian counterpart of the United States. Its nice here. CONCLUDE: Thanks so much for reading and if you watched the video thanks. Gotta fulfill my mission purpose and spread my knowledge of jesus christ. Sorry this was so long. And late... but I'll write about some crazy people in my next email so, stay in tune! Chao!!!
